VESSEL HISTORY:
Originally planned as a Tenata class assault ship, StarLion had her keel
laid at K'ionel Shipyards, Phelspharia, on December 16, 2246. Construction
was halted in November of 2247 with the announcement of the Golden's Hold
cease-fire. With the end of declared hostilities, the order was canceled and
the hull was scheduled to be dismantled.
That would have been the end of the story had it not been for Commander Walter
Ionet. A design engineer working out of the L-5 shipyards, Ionet had been
pushing for his radical techniques to be incorporated into a new spaceframe.
Hearing of the abandoned keel in orbit about Phelspharia, Ionet pressed his
request up the chain of command. The project was approved on February 16,
2248, by Admiral Bryan Reynolds.
By the time her space-trials were complete, StarLion had broken four speed
records and had shattered previously established standards for weapons
accuracy. The "radical" design techniques had proven to be the work of a
genius.
There are currently three StarLion Class Battle Cruisers in service, with
four on order. Ionet has left the design field and currently serves as the
Chief Engineer of the TSS StarLion, a job for which he is unquestionably
the best qualified.
